Anchorage Tours

RESURRECTION BAY CRUISE with ALASKA WILDLIFE CONSERVATION CENTER

Enjoy a winter glacier and wildlife cruise of Resurrection Bay! At approx. 7:30am, you will depart from Anchorage on a motorcoach to Seward. At 11:30am, depart on a natural history cruise of Resurrection Bay. Watch for marine wildlife, such as Steller sea lions, sea otters, mountain goats, bald eagles and even possibly a whale. See Bear Glacier, a massive river of ice flowing from Harding Ice Field located in Kenai Fjords National Park. Hot lunch served on cruise. Following the cruise, you will return to Anchorage, making a stop at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center where you can see moose, bear, musk oxen, and other local wildlife up-close (admission to the Center is included). Witness this amazing annual migration of California Gray Whales, traveling over 5,000 miles from Baja California, to the nutrient rich waters of Alaska's Bering Sea! At approx. 7:30am, you will depart from Anchorage on a motorcoach to Seward. At 12pm, depart on a 4 hour cruise, where you will have a front row seat as these magnificent mammals pass by the mouth of Resurrection Bay. Watch for their bushy, heart shaped blow rising up to 13 feet in the air. A hot lunch is included. Guided snowshoeing takes you into the peaceful beauty of Alaska's backcountry

If you have never tried ice climbing before, now is your chance! This tour is perfect if you are looking for a little more adventure than the usual. After you are driven to a climbing area north or south of Anchorage, your guide will set up a top-rope on the ice route. The experienced and certified international mountain guide will teach you everything from the basics to advanced ice climbing techniques. You will be fitted with crampons, a harness, mountaineering boots and ice tools. Then, "climb on" as your guide belays you! No experience necessary.

Learn about dog mushing with a visit to the Dream a Dream Dog Farm, owned and operated by veteran Iditarod and Yukon Quest sled dog race mushers Vern and Susan Halter. This tour provides an excellent opportunity to learn about the Iditarod Race and mushing basics. After touring the facilities and meeting the dogs, learn about dog mushing in the Mushing 101 course. The course focuses on equipment, sled harnessing, commands and what to expect from the dogs. After the course, you'll have the chance to drive your own dog team for an exhilarating ride through the wilderness for about 90 minutes. Cold weather gear is provided.

See an active volcano from the air! From Homer, you will fly in a bush plane across Cook Inlet to the active volcanoes in the Aleutian and Alaskan Ranges. Not only will you fly around the craters of these magnificent volcanoes, but you will also have views of giant glaciers and the rugged coastline of Katmai and Lake Clark National Parks. The route will depend on volcanic activity, and may include Augustine Volcano, Douglas Volcano, Illiamna Volcano or the famous Redoubt Volcano. A landing on the beach at the foot of one of these volcanoes is definitely worth it!

Extend your McKinley Experience Tour and fly to the remote western end of Denali national Park. Explore the south side of Mt. McKinley (20,320 feet), Mt. Foraker (17,400 feet) and Mt. Hunter (14,573 feet). Fly over the winding Kahiltna Glacier, the longest glacier in Denali National Park (45 miles long and 3 miles wide), and on to the climber's Base Camp located at 7,200 feet on the southeast fork of the Kahiltna Glacier.

During this 5 hour* guided tour, you will learn about Fairbanks natural and cultural history. Tour the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) Museum* to learn about Alaska's natural and cultural history as well as the science behind the majestic Northern Lights. Stops are made at the UAF Large Animal Research Station to view Musk-oxen, Alaskan Reindeer and Caribou, as well as the Alaska Oil Pipeline viewing station, the Fairbanks Visitors Center and new Morris Thompson Cultural Center.

This tour is designed for the more adventurous person who would like to drive their own dog team! Begin with a 1 hour transfer south of Fairbanks to Nenana. Learn about all aspects of dog mushing from your musher-guide before touring the kennel and selecting your dogs. Then hitch up the sled and spend about 1 hour learning dog mushing skill before the big outing - a 14 mile sled trip through snow covered forest, frozen rivers and open tundra with your musher-guide. Warm up with hot drinks before returning to Fairbanks.

Tour Includes: Roundtrip transfers from Fairbanks, snacks, hot beverages, arctic clothing / gear, and dog mushing instruction. Guide gratuities are not included.

AURORA VIEWING

You will depart from your hotel for an Aurora Viewing tour. A 30 to 45-minute drive will take you outside of Fairbanks to the Aurora Borealis Lodge, a beautiful, spacious Alaskan log building designed especially for viewing the Northern Lights. Located on Cleary Summit 20 miles north of Fairbanks, the lodge is situated away from the city lights that can hinder Aurora viewing. We recommend that you dress warmly for this tour, so you may view the Northern Lights from outdoors. If you become cold, the large, north-facing windows allow for optimal viewing from the warmth of the lodge. Hot beverages and roundtrip transportation are included. Your driver will return you to your hotel around 2:30am.

Drive all the way north to the Arctic Circle, where you will receive an official Arctic Circle certificate. On the way back south to Fairbanks, stop and marvel at the majestic beauty of the northland's most famous waterway, the Yukon River. Enjoy a walk on the treeless arctic tundra, which will give you a sense of the vast scale of Alaska's arctic regions. A short ground tour of the rural truck stop of Coldfoot is included. Your return flight provides another opportunity to see the Yukon River, the Brooks Range, Gates of the Arctic National Park, and the Trans-Alaska Pipeline from the air. Enjoy a visit to Chena Hot Springs Resort and its relaxing mineral hot springs. You will be transferred from your hotel to Chena Hot Springs Resort, a 90-minute drive from Fairbanks. During your 4-hour visit to the resort, enjoy the relaxing mineral springs and tour the famous Aurora Ice Museum and Stoli Ice Bar (included). You may also want to add a dog sled ride, cross-country skiing, or massage (not included in tour price). Winter gear can also be rented at the resort for a fee. You will return to Fairbanks in the afternoon.
