Alaska Homestead Lodge is nestled at the foot of Mt. Iliamna in Lake Clark National Park and near Silver Salmon Creek, a place of unsurpassed beauty. The lodge is reached via airplane from Soldotna or Anchorage, making it a convenient location for an overnight bear viewing stay. The original homestead was established in the 1950’s at Silver Salmon Creek, since then the original buildings have been renovated into a rustic and comfortable wilderness lodge.
Lodge visitors will be treated to great bear viewing on the Cook Inlet coast where Alaskan brown bears graze in the nearby meadows. Bear watchers may also see eagles soaring overhead, seals and other Alaskan wildlife that thrive in the National Park wilderness. Other activities from Alaska Homestead Lodge include fishing, clamming, canoeing, hiking, berry picking – it’s all part of the lodge vacation experience in Lake Clark. Overnight guests enjoy wonderful home cooked meals and comfortable rooms and the great company of the lodge hosts who call this classic Alaska lodge home.
The Alaska Homestead Lodge offers the experience of a lifetime. Besides great bear viewing opportunities (typically June/July), guests learn about the amazing stories of homesteading and living in this remote area, without road access. All bear viewing trips are guided.
During mid June and through end of July bear sightings are most reliable; however, bears roam the green meadows all summer feeding on sage grass. Bears might be spotted near the lodge or within a 3-mile radius. Sightings cannot be guaranteed!
