This Skagway day tour shows you the highlights of the Klondike Highway and includes a sled dog ride. To begin the tour, experience the beauty of the Klondike Highway as you travel north in a comfortable mini-coach, paralleling much of the original White Pass Trail to the summit and beyond. View icy lakes, waterfalls, wild forest and snow-capped mountains along the route. Stand on the shores of Lake Bennett, experience the Carcross Desert, the world’s smallest desert, take a photo at brilliant green Emerald Lake, and watch for Yukon wildlife! A visit to a premier educational wildlife gallery, featuring over 100 Yukon and ice age mammals on display, along with the world’s largest mounted polar bear, is included. You’ll also tour a sled dog camp, where you can pet the sled dogs, play with the puppies, and hear the adventures of winter dog sledding in the Yukon. Enjoy a sled dog ride in a wheeled cart down a 1-mile forested course, specially designed to allow the canine athletes to train in the off season. While on the course you will see the team respond to mushing commands, and have the opportunity to stop with the team and watch them romp and play in their watering pools. (Dogsledding Tour time is approx. 15 min and includes team hookup, safety briefing and ride. Time on the trail may vary slightly based on temperatures, trail conditions, and specific team you are riding with.)
