  • Highlights: Travel by bus from Anchorage to Denali and stay 1 night at the Denali park entrance area. The next day, travel to Denali Backcountry Lodge. Ample stops for great wildlife viewing opportunities and scenic viewpoints will be made so there are plenty of photo opportunities throughout the day. The park road terminates in the remote and historic Kantishna region. Check into your private cabin and enjoy dinner and a leisurely evening. Each day choose from a variety of guided hikes and activities, or check out lodge equipment for exploring independently. All meals are included at the main lodge which also contains a bar and lounge. Return through the park by lodge bus, and continue to Anchorage via the Alaska Railroad.

Experience the grandeur of Denali National Park firsthand while staying at Denali Backcountry Lodge, an Alaska wilderness lodge located deep within the Park.  Enjoy expansive views of the Alaska Range, including spectacular Mt. Denali when the weather is clear.  In addition to amazing landscapes, touring the park on day 2 and day 4 (if taking bus transfer) provides top rated wildlife viewing opportunities. Your Denali Backcountry Lodge stay offer a selection of guided or unguided outdoor adventures which make this a memorable Denali National Park experience.

Tour Itinerary

Day
1

Anchorage to Denali National Park

Depart from downtown Anchorage early in the morning and travel by motorcoach to Denali National Park. Relax and capture the scenery from large picture windows. You may make a short stop in Talkeetna before arriving in Denali in the early afternoon. The remainder of the afternoon is at your leisure to explore the park entrance area, including the informative visit access center.  Optional tours are also available which include river rafting or visiting an Iditarod champion dog kennel (see Tour Add-ons). Overnight near the Denali park entrance.

2

Denali park entrance to Kantishna

This morning relax before departing on a wildlife bus tour through Denali National Park to Kantishna in the early afternoon. Along the way your naturalist driver/guide will discuss the natural history of the park as you search for moose, bear, caribou, and other wildlife which have made Denali Park renowned worldwide. Stops will be made to enjoy the scenery, taking photographs and viewing wildlife. The bus will arrive at the lodge about 8:00pm in time for a late dinner, and time to relax. Overnight at Denali Backcountry Lodge.

3

Denali Backcountry Lodge

Spend the day enjoying a naturalist-led guided hike or walk, panning for gold or mountain biking in Denali's backcountry.  In the evening enjoy a presentation focusing on the local area, read a book from the extensive natural history library, or just relax and share stories from the day. All outdoor activities (except flightseeing) are included. Overnight at the Denali Backcountry Lodge.

4

Denali National Park to Anchorage

Enjoy a light breakfast very early this morning before departing to transfer back to the park entrance with additional opportunities to see wildlife.  For a truly unique experience you may also choose to return to the park entrance by airplane (not included). This scenic flight takes you withing close view of Denali (formerly Mt. McKinley). In the afternoon you depart on the Alaska Railroad for the trip back to Anchorage. This tour concludes upon arrival at the Anchorage rail depot at approximately 8:00pm.  Local transfers on your own.

Meals are included during your stay at Denali Backcountry Lodge only. Meals are homemade and served buffet style for breakfast, packed lunch, family style for dinner. Special dietary needs can be considered with advance notice and should be noted upon reservation
