  • Highlights: Travel by bus to Denali arriving in time to meet the transfer to the lodge. Ample stops for great wildlife viewing opportunities and scenic viewpoints will be made so there are plenty of photo opportunities throughout the day. The park road terminates in the remote and historic Kantishna region. Check into your private cabin and enjoy dinner and a leisurely evening. Each day choose from a variety of guided hikes and activities, or check out lodge equipment for exploring independently. All meals are included at the main lodge where you which also contains a bar and lounge seating area. Return through the park by lodge bus, and continue to Anchorage via the Alaska Railroad.

Tour Itinerary

Day
1

Anchorage to Denali National Park

Depart from downtown Anchorage early in the morning and travel by motorcoach to Denali National Park. Relax and capture the scenery from large picture windows. You may make a short stop in Talkeetna before arriving in Denali in the early afternoon. The remainder of the afternoon is at your leisure to explore the park entrance area, including the informative visit access center.  Optional tours are also available which include river rafting or visiting an Iditarod champion dog kennel (see Tour Add-ons). Overnight near the Denali park entrance.

2

Denali park entrance to Kantishna

This morning you have more free time for an optional tour before departing on a wildlife bus tour through Denali National Park to Kantishna in the early afternoon. Along the way your naturalist driver/guide will discuss the natural history of the park as you search for moose, bear, caribou, and other wildlife which have made Denali Park renowned worldwide. Stops will be made to enjoy the scenery, taking photographs and viewing wildlife. The bus will arrive at the lodge about 8:00pm in time for a late dinner, and time to relax. Overnight at Denali Backcountry Lodge.

3

Denali Backcountry Lodge

Spend the day enjoying a naturalist-led guided hike or walk, panning for gold or mountain biking in Denali's backcountry.  In the evening enjoy a presentation focusing on the local area, read a book from the extensive natural history library, or just relax and share stories from the day. All outdoor activities (except flightseeing) are included. Overnight at the Denali Backcountry Lodge.

Denali National Park to Anchorage

Enjoy a light breakfast very early this morning before departing to transfer back to the park entrance with additional opportunities to see wildlife.  For a truly unique experience you may also choose to return to the park entrance by airplane (not included). This scenic flight takes you withing close view of Denali (formerly Mt. McKinley). In the afternoon you depart on the Alaska Railroad for the trip back to Anchorage. This tour concludes upon arrival at the Anchorage rail depot at approximately 8:00pm.  Local transfers on your own.

Meals are included during your stay at the lodge. Meals are homemade and served buffet style for breakfast, packed lunch, family style for dinner. Special requests can be prepared with advance notice and should be noted upon reservation.

Children 6 to 11 years old sharing with at least 2 full paying adults with existing bedding. Minimum child age is 6 years old.

Our Standard Program Includes:

2 and 3 star hotel accommodations.

The program will include a combination of hotels or motels that are considered moderate to standard tourist class. Please be aware not all hotels have shuttle services.

Standard train car seating on all rail services (reserved seats).

If you would like to book the standard program but with upgraded rail seating, the option and surcharge will be listed when you save to your cart.

Our Upgraded Program Includes:

* 3 and 4 star hotels (best available) wherever possible.

The program will include standard rooms at this category of hotel where possible. Alaska has very limited hotel choices in remote areas and small towns. The properties will typically offer a wider range of services such as a full-service restaurant, room service and perhaps a pool or spa facilities. Please be aware the upgraded accommodations in downtown Anchorage do not have hotel shuttle services. Many of the upgraded hotels also offer guaranteed view rooms for additional cost. If you would like a specific room type, in addition to the upgraded program, please ask us about availability and cost difference.

Deluxe dome train car seating between Anchorage, Denali and Fairbanks, or Anchorage and Seward.

All journeys between Anchorage and Whittier are in standard seating as deluxe dome cars are not available on that route.

60 to 45 days prior to lodge stay date: 50% of the total invoice
44 to 31 days prior to lodge stay date: 60% of the total invoice
30 to 0 days prior to lodge stay date: 100% of the total invoice
