Tour Overview

This Alaska tour at Brooks Lodge focuses on the experience of staying inside Katmai National Park and the natural wonders this area has to offer. Brooks Falls and Brooks Lodge are world renowned for their incredible brown bear viewing as well as the Valley of 10,000 Smokes. Alaska’s bears are attracted to this area in Alaska specifically during the time of the Brooks River salmon run (typically July and September). These bears actually don’t inhabit this area year round, only arriving to feed on salmon a couple of times a year.

The Katmai National Monument was established in 1918 to protect the valleys created by the major 1912 volcanic eruption of Novarupta, which formed the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes in the region surrounding Mount Katmai. Katmai protects 9,000 years of human history as well as important habitat for salmon and the thousands of brown bears that feed on them. The Brooks Camp and Lodge area is the gateway to the Valley of 10,000 Smokes and even though this volcano is no longer active, it is still an impressive sight and worth a visit!

Food and meals:  Visitors are not allowed to bring food to Brooks. This is for the protection of both people and bears. A dining area in the main lodge serves breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets daily. Meals are not included with any of the packages. The lodge only accepts cash, Visa and MasterCard.
