This active outdoor Anchorage day tour includes a hike among beautiful Alaska scenery, kayaking among blue icebergs and then hiking on to a majestic glacier. Arrive at Spencer Glacier Whistle Stop aboard the Alaska Railroad. After a short van ride, you will be outfitted in personal floating devices (PFD’s) and a kayak spray skirt. Kayak across Spencer Lake about 1.5 miles (about 60 minutes) to the other side of Spencer Glacier. Upon arrival to the glacier, you will be outfitted with helmets and crampons. After a brief safety lesson and practice getting comfortable with the crampons, your group will venture out onto the glacier itself. About two hours will be spent exploring the glacier’s features including crevasses, ice caves, moulins, and more. Experienced glacier guides provide information on local wildlife, history and glaciology. Return to Anchorage by kayak, van and train. This tour departs from the Anchorage Railroad Station.
