Tour Overview

Explore Alaska’s vast interior by train, traveling northbound on the Alaska Railroad from Anchorage to Denali National Park and then continuing by train to Fairbanks. You’ll take the most popular bus tour into Denali National Park, with opportunities for wildlife viewing and a chance to get scenic views of Denali, North America’s tallest mountain. This classic railroad journey through Alaska’s heartland is along one of the most scenic rail routes and works very well, added as a pre or post-Alaska cruise land tour.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1
Anchorage Arrival

Transfer to your hotel on own. Depending on your arrival time, you may have time to take part in an optional tour such as flight-seeing or a city tour (see Tour Add-ons). Overnight in Anchorage.

Day 2
Anchorage to Denali National Park

This morning transfer to the Anchorage train station on own. At 8:15am, you will travel from Anchorage to Denali National Park aboard the railroad. Upon arrival in Denali at 3:30pm, transfer to your hotel by courtesy shuttle. The afternoon is free for optional tours in Denali, such as Cabin Nite Dinner Theater or flightseeing (see Tour Add-ons). Overnight near the Denali park entrance.

Day 3
Denali National Park

Today, depart on a narrated bus tour into Denali National Park.  As you travel through the pristine wilderness, look for wildlife, such as bears, caribou, and moose, as well as views of the Mountain. Your experienced driver/guide will provide commentary.  The tour is approximately 4-6 hours long and takes you approximately 30 – 43 miles into the park, depending on weather and road conditions. Rest of day is at leisure; relax or take a short flightseeing tour. Overnight near the Denali park entrance.

Day 4
Denali National Park to Fairbanks

The morning is free to explore Denali or relax at your hotel. In the late afternoon you will depart on the train to Fairbanks. Upon arrival in the evening you will transfer to your hotel on your own. Overnight in Fairbanks.

Day 5
Fairbanks Departure

You may have time this morning to sightsee. Transfer from your hotel to the airport on your own to meet your departing flight.

This Tour has Two Program Levels

Standard Program Offers:

  • Hotels: moderate to standard tourist class hotels (2 and 3 star).
  • Train seating: standard rail car seating / adventure class. You have the option to upgrade your seating to dome rail car seating on selected train routes when you book the tour.

Upgraded Program Offers:

  • Hotels: good moderate to first class hotels (3 and 4 star), wherever possible. Alaska has very limited hotel choices in remote areas and small towns.
  • Train seating: deluxe dome rail car seating wherever possible.
