This 5-night Northern Lights Tour from Fairbanks to the Arctic Circle to Coldfoot during the winter is an extended version of our 4-day Arctic Circle Northern Lights Adventure for those interested in more opportunities to view the Northern Lights. After overnighting in Fairbanks, you’ll travel by van north on the famous Dalton Highway “ice road,” crossing the Arctic Circle in route to Coldfoot, a rest stop for the “Ice Road Truckers” who are headed to the Prudhoe Bay oil fields. While in Coldfoot, you can take advantage of optional excursions, including visiting the Brooks Mountain Range, dog sledding, and Aurora viewing in Wiseman. Alaska’s Far North region offers unique winter outdoor activities and an excellent opportunity to see Alaska’s Northern Lights.
Meals and gratuities; optional tours.
Today you will depart on an escorted small group program that takes you deep into Alaska’s Arctic. Early this morning, depart for a full-day ground tour north in the personalized comfort of the tour van (about 8 hours including frequent stops). The tour takes you along the rugged Dalton Highway and over the Arctic Circle to Coldfoot. Stops en route include the trading post at Joy, the Yukon River, and a ceremonial crossing of the Arctic Circle. An experienced driver/guide will provide insight and information about Alaska’s Arctic. Overnight in Coldfoot, rustic accommodations with shared bathrooms.
Spend time experiencing Alaska’s Arctic with a variety of optional tours, such as an excursion further north into to the Brooks Mountain Range along the Dalton Highway, Aurora viewing in Wiseman (see Tour Add-Ons), or dog sledding with a local musher (can only be booked on the spot). Overnight at Coldfoot Camp.
Depart Coldfoot on a scenic small plane flight to Fairbanks. This tour can also operate in reverse with a flight to Coldfoot on Day 2 and a driving tour to Fairbanks today. Upon arrival in Fairbanks, transfer to your hotel by shuttle. Overnight in Fairbanks.

The program will include a combination of hotels or motels that are considered moderate to standard tourist class. Please be aware not all hotels have shuttle services.
If you would like to book the standard program but with upgraded rail seating, the option and surcharge will be listed when you save to your cart.
The program will include standard rooms at this category of hotel where possible. Alaska has very limited hotel choices in remote areas and small towns. The properties will typically offer a wider range of services such as a full-service restaurant, room service and perhaps a pool or spa facilities. Please be aware the upgraded accommodations in downtown Anchorage do not have hotel shuttle services. Many of the upgraded hotels also offer guaranteed view rooms for additional cost. If you would like a specific room type, in addition to the upgraded program, please ask us about availability and cost difference.
All journeys between Anchorage and Whittier are in standard seating as deluxe dome cars are not available on that route.
