You might not be surprised to discover that most Alaskans love the winter season. A fading Midnight Sun? The first snow? Tantalizing serendipitous opportunities to see the Northern Lights? Bring It ON!
As Summer’s twilight fades and late August ushers in the first hints of the fall season, Alaska locals begin getting excited about the start of winter sports and adventures.
One of our favorite winter destinations is Chena Hot Springs Resort. An easy drive north from Fairbanks, this natural “must see” destination is a terrific home base to northern lights viewing, dogsledding, hot springs hopping and visits to the Aurora Ice Museum. What could be more Alaskan than that?!!
And speaking of the Northern Lights…in celebration of Winter 2024, this month we’re proud to feature four local photographers who share with you their handpicked images of the infamous Aurora Borealis.
One of our favorite winter tours combining aurora viewing with Chena Hot Springs is our 4-night Chena Hot Springs Aurora Viewing Package from Fairbanks. This tour is offered January-April and August-December and includes 2 nights at the Resort and a 4-5 hour northern lights expedition.
And for those with a little more time, Alaska’s Glaciers, Hot Springs and Northern Lights Tour is a 6-night extravaganza including 2 nights in Anchorage, glacier trek on Matanuska Glacier, a ride on the Alaska Railroad to Fairbanks, 2 nights at Chena Hot Springs and optional activities you can add on from snowmobiling to cross-country skiing to dogsledding.
Winter sports fans, make Alaska your “go to” destination this winter!
