Tour Overview

Glacier Bay Lodge is located inside Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve which lies at the northwest end of the Alexander Archipelago in Southeastern Alaska. This Alaska wilderness lodge is the perfect base for exploring Glacier Bay’s tidewater glaciers, deep fjords, and abundant populations of Alaska wildlife, including eagles, seals, sea lions, and brown bears. Glacier Bay Lodge provides moderate-level accommodations with a rustic ambiance. The main lodge hosts a comfortable main sitting area with a fireplace, park interpretive center, gift shop, and restaurant, and National Park Rangers provide talks about the many natural attractions of this World Heritage Site.

Tour Itinerary

Important - This program includes overnights in Juneau before and after the stay in Glacier Bay. All flights in Southeast Alaska are weather dependent. The itinerary considers weather delays due to unpredictable weather in Southeast Alaska.

Day 1
Arrive in Juneau

Arrive in Juneau at any time and transfer to your hotel on own. The rest of the day is at your leisure. Overnight in Juneau.

Day 2
Juneau to Glacier Bay National Park

In the early afternoon board a small plane for a 25-minute scenic flight to Gustavus, the gateway to Glacier Bay National Park. On arrival, take the shuttle transfer to Glacier Bay Lodge. The remainder of the day is free to enjoy a walk or relax. Overnight at Glacier Bay Lodge.

Day 3
Glacier Bay National Park to Juneau

Depart from Bartlett Cove for your 8-hour narrated cruise of Glacier Bay National Park. Watch for whales, Stellar sea lions, puffins and sea otters as the high-speed catamaran cruises through the park to the face of the Margerie and Grand Pacific Glaciers, two of 16 tidewater glaciers found in the park. You may even be fortunate enough to see glacier calving (ice falling off into the ocean). Lunch is included and park rangers are aboard to provide interpretive information. The boat will return in the late afternoon. Afterwards, transfer from Glacier Bay Lodge to the Gustavus Airport. On the approx. 25 minute flight from Gustavus to Juneau, you have another chance to see the impressive landscape of the region.  Overnight in Juneau.

Day 4
Juneau

Enjoy the day to sightsee in Alaska’s capital city. Attractions include the Mt. Roberts Tram, the State of Alaska Museum, and Mendenhall Glacier. Overnight Juneau.

Day 5
Juneau Departure

Depending on your departure time, you might have free time for some souvenir shopping. Transfer to the airport on your own. Depart or start an additional program.

NOTE: Flights to/from Gustavus typically are in small planes with luggage weight limitations of 50 pounds per person.

* Child prices are valid for children 11 years and younger, sharing a room with at least 2 full paying adults with the existing bedding.

Our Standard Program Includes:

2 and 3 star hotel accommodations.

The program will include a combination of hotels or motels that are considered moderate to standard tourist class. Please be aware not all hotels have shuttle services.

Standard train car seating on all rail services (reserved seats).

If you would like to book the standard program but with upgraded rail seating, the option and surcharge will be listed when you save to your cart.

Our Upgraded Program Includes:

* 3 and 4 star hotels (best available) wherever possible.

The program will include standard rooms at this category of hotel where possible. Alaska has very limited hotel choices in remote areas and small towns. The properties will typically offer a wider range of services such as a full-service restaurant, room service and perhaps a pool or spa facilities. Please be aware the upgraded accommodations in downtown Anchorage do not have hotel shuttle services. Many of the upgraded hotels also offer guaranteed view rooms for additional cost. If you would like a specific room type, in addition to the upgraded program, please ask us about availability and cost difference.

Deluxe dome train car seating between Anchorage, Denali and Fairbanks, or Anchorage and Seward.

All journeys between Anchorage and Whittier are in standard seating as deluxe dome cars are not available on that route.

Cancellation Policy:
Up to 61 days prior to lodge stay: 10% cancellation fee
60 - 45 days prior to lodge stay: 30% cancellation fee
44 to 31 days prior to lodge stay: 60% cancellation fee
30 to 0 days prior to lodge stay: 100% cancellation fee

Weather Cancellations:
Fights to and from Gustavus / Glacier Bay may be delayed or cancelled due to bad weather. Missed services in Glacier Bay may be refundable but only if you contact us immediately (that day).
