Fairbanks Arrival
Arrive into Fairbanks and transfer from the airport by hotel shuttle or on your own. Overnight in Fairbanks.
This 3-night Northern Lights Viewing vacation during the Alaskan winter includes two opportunities for night-time aurora borealis viewing and a guided tour of Fairbanks and its main attractions, including the Museum of the North, Chena Hot Springs, and the Ice Museum. Fairbanks is Alaska’s second-largest city and a hub for winter activity. This aurora viewing getaway is great for visitors with limited time and works well with our other winter tour itineraries.
Meals, gratuities, and towel rental at Chena Hot Springs Resort.
Depart from your hotel for a 5-hour sightseeing tour of Fairbanks. During this guided tour, you will visit the University of Alaska Museum where you can marvel at the natural and cultural history of Alaska as well as discover the science behind the majestic northern lights. Other stops include the Morris Thompson Cultural & Visitor Center and the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. Finally, you will travel to North Pole to visit the world famous Santa Claus House. You may even get to meet Kris Kringle and his reindeer! Your day tour concludes at your hotel around 6:00pm.
Late in the evening you will be picked up for an aurora viewing tour. An approximate 45-minute drive will take you to an aurora viewing yurt. The yurt is designed especially for viewing the northern lights and located away from the city lights that can hinder aurora viewing. We recommend you dress warmly for this tour so you may view the northern lights from outdoor as well as the yurt. Hot beverages are provided and the yurt has an outhouse-style restroom attached. Your driver will return you to your hotel around 2:30am. Overnight in Fairbanks.
Depending on the day of the week you start your program, these excursions will take place on day 3.
This afternoon, you will be picked up from your hotel and transferred about 1 1/2 hours to Chena Hot Springs Resort. Upon arrival, you will visit the Ice Museum with a guided tour. Afterwards, soak and relax in the natural hot springs. Around midnight, look for the northern lights dancing across the sky. Depart at about 2:00am, arriving back at your hotel around 4:00am.
Depending on the day of the week you start your program, this excursion will take place on day 2.
SPECIAL NOTE: The order of the excursions will change, depending on the day of the week you start your tour. After the tour is booked and confirmed, excursions may still change due to northern lights activity, weather, or other considerations; if that happens, you will be consulted regarding any changes.
The program will include a combination of hotels or motels that are considered moderate to standard tourist class. Please be aware not all hotels have shuttle services.
If you would like to book the standard program but with upgraded rail seating, the option and surcharge will be listed when you save to your cart.
The program will include standard rooms at this category of hotel where possible. Alaska has very limited hotel choices in remote areas and small towns. The properties will typically offer a wider range of services such as a full-service restaurant, room service and perhaps a pool or spa facilities. Please be aware the upgraded accommodations in downtown Anchorage do not have hotel shuttle services. Many of the upgraded hotels also offer guaranteed view rooms for additional cost. If you would like a specific room type, in addition to the upgraded program, please ask us about availability and cost difference.
All journeys between Anchorage and Whittier are in standard seating as deluxe dome cars are not available on that route.

Everything was easy and organized. Definitely worth going through them, versus trying to line up everything yourself, if you're doing planes, trains, buses and boats!
