This Denali National Park tour from Fairbanks aboard the Alaska Railroad is perfect for Alaska travelers who only have a few days to do a land tour before getting on their Alaska cruise. With this fast-paced itinerary, you visit Denali National Park and one of Alaska’s two largest cities, Fairbanks. You travel to Denali in style on the Alaska Railroad and watch for wildlife deep inside the park. You’ll then take the train from Denali to Anchorage for an overnight. You then have the option to book the train from Anchorage to Seward or from Anchorage to Whittier. As you travel on the train to your cruise departure point in Seward or Whittier, enjoy the striking beauty of Cook Inlet and Turnagain Arm. This morning depart for Denali aboard the Alaska Railroad arriving in the early afternoon. After checking into your hotel you will depart on a bus tour of Denali National Park. This tour takes you through the best wildlife viewing portion of the Park Road, approximately 43 miles into the park. As you travel through the pristine wilderness, look for wildlife, such as bears, caribou, and moose, as well as views of the Mountain. Your experienced driver/guide will provide commentary and make stops during your approximately 4-6 hour tour*. Overnight near the Denali park entrance.
* Please note that in May/September the bus tour into Denali National Park may be shorter due to road and weather conditions.
This morning is at leisure to either sleep in or to take an optional early morning activity at the Denali Park entrance. Later in the morning, transfer by hotel courtesy shuttle to the Alaska Railroad depot in Denali. Just after noon, you will depart for Anchorage onboard the Alaska Railroad. Stunning views from the train include the Alaska Range, Summit Lake, Hurricane Gulch, and – if the weather is clear – Denali’s 20,310’ peak. Arrive in Anchorage in the evening at around 8pm. Transfer to your hotel in own. Overnight Anchorage.
Optional Train to Seward or Whittier!
If you are departing Alaska by cruise ship and your cruise leaves from Seward or Whittier, you have the option to add a train journey to your reservation. You can add this train during the booking process. The train ride offers another highlight of Alaska, picturesque and stunning scenery!
The train from Anchorage to Seward departs Anchorage at 6:45am and arrives in Seward at 11:20am. The train station in Seward is an about 15 min walk to the Cruise Terminal.
The train from Anchorage to Whittier departs Anchorage at 9:45am and arrives in Whittier at 12:05pm. The train station in Whittier is close to the Cruise Terminal.
