Tour overview:
This scenic Anchorage day tour begins with a train trip south on the Alaska Railroad to Seward as it takes you along Cook Inlet and into the glacier-filled Kenai Mountains. In Seward, you will be met at the rail depot by a member of the famous Iditarod Sled Dog Race’s original mushing family, the Seavey’s, for an action-packed day centered around dogsledding fun. You’ll first travel to Iditarod champion Mitch Seavey’s sled dog kennel, where you can meet famous dogs, cuddle adorable puppies, dress up as an Iditarod musher, and hear stories about the 1,000-mile race. Afterward, you’ll take in the spectacular Alaskan wilderness as you mush for two miles on a wheeled cart piloted by an Iditarod competitor. After a hearty lunch at a local restaurant, continue to Exit Glacier and learn about the history of Seward. Enjoy a short walk along a nature trail to the face of the glacier. In the end, tour the town of Seward and its sights and see the effects of the 1964 earthquake. Following your tour, you will re-board the Alaska Railroad, returning to Anchorage.
