Fly from Anchorage to the world’s most famous bear viewing destination, Katmai National Park and Brooks Falls! Depart Anchorage early in the morning aboard a scheduled flight to King Salmon or Kulik (approximately 1.5 hours). On arrival, a local representative will transfer you directly to a seaplane for the 20 minute flight to Brooks Camp. After a short safety briefing about bears by a park ranger, you are free to explore the nature preserve and enjoy unguided bear viewing for about 4 to 6 hours. Brooks Falls bear viewing platforms are connected by walking trails, and are strategically placed for commanding views of brown bears at home in their natural habitat in Katmai. Rangers are based at platforms and on trails to provide information, safety, and to rotate viewing groups during busy periods. Depart Brooks in the afternoon and connect in King Salmon for your return flight to Anchorage in the evening.
NOTE: Bear viewing at Brooks River Falls is very dependent on the annual salmon runs. The most reliable viewing is from about June 25 to July 25 as well as September. Bears are in the area throughout the summer months however bear sightings are not guaranteed.
The flights between Anchorage and King Salmon/Kulik vary dependent on availability. Departure flight will be between 6:30 and 9:30am with return flight from King Salmon between 6 and 8 pm. Actual time spent at Brooks Camp is typically between 4 and 6 hours, dependent on flight times and weather.
