Tour Overview

This Anchorage day trip departs in the morning on the Alaska Railroad for a 3.5 hour ride to Spencer Glacier in the Chugach National Forests’ remote mountains. Upon arrival at Spencer, you have time to explore the area on your own or you can participate in a guided walk led by a US Forest Service Ranger **. There is a viewing platform for views of Spencer Glacier about 1.5 miles (one way) from the Spencer flag stop trail starting point. This low-impact gravel path offers benches and incredible scenic views along the way. After your visit at Spencer, you will travel back to Portage by flag stop train. At Portage you board a motorcoach and return to Anchorage by scheduled motorcoach.
