Tour Overview

This is a fantastic Denali tour if you only have a short time to visit Alaska or an excellent land program before or after an Alaska cruise.  Enjoy Alaska’s scenic landscape while you travel by motorcoach from Anchorage to Talkeetna and then to Denali. Take a spectacular optional flightseeing tour to the Alaska Mountain Range from Talkeetna. Explore Denali National Park on a narrated bus tour and watch for wildlife. Take a scenic train ride from Denali to Anchorage.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1
Anchorage Arrival

Arrive into Anchorage and transfer to your hotel on your own. Anchorage is Alaska’s largest city, nestled between the Chugach Mountains and Cook Inlet. Offering cultural attractions, and great restaurants, Anchorage provides an excellent start to your vacation. Overnight in Anchorage.

Day 2
Anchorage to Talkeetna

This morning is at leisure in Anchorage. Explore Anchorage downtown, take an Anchorage Trolley Tour or just sleep in. In the afternoon, transfer yourself to the bus departure point from where you will take a deluxe motorcoach transfer to Talkeetna. Departure from Anchorage is at 3:00pm. After a scenic drive you arrive in Talkeetna at about 5:30pm. Talkeetna is known as a starting point for Denali climbing expeditions. Weather permitting, you have spectacular views of the Alaska Mountain Range. The rest of the evening is at your leisure. Overnight in Talkeetna

Day 3
Talkeetna to Denali

Today is yours to discover Talkeetna. You may want to take a riverboat tour, a flightseeing tour to the southern border of Denali National Park or just take a stroll through the unique small mountain town (see Tour Add-Ons). In the early evening, your journey continues with a transfer by deluxe motorcoach to Denali. You depart Talkeetna at about 5:45pm and arrive in Denali at 9pm. Overnight near the Denali park entrance.

Day 4
Denali National Park

Depart on a narrated bus tour into Denali National Park today. As you travel through the pristine wilderness, look for wildlife, such as bears, caribou, and moose, as well as views of the Mountain. Your experienced driver/guide will provide commentary. The tour is approximately 4-6 hours long and takes you approximately 30 – 43 miles into the park, depending on weather and road conditions. The rest of the day is free for optional tours. Overnight near the Denali park entrance.

Day 5
Denali to Anchorage

Sleep in this morning or enjoy a short excursion before leaving Denali National Park today.  Then transfer by hotel courtesy shuttle to the Alaska Railroad train station for a 12:30pm train departure. The train journey offers stunning views of the Alaska Range, Summit Lake, Hurricane Gulch, and – if the weather is clear – Denali’s 20,310’ peak. Stroll through the train cars, visit the dining car, and learn from the knowledgeable local guides on board. Upon arrival in Anchorage about 8:00pm, transfer on your own to your hotel. Overnight in Anchorage.

Day 6
Anchorage Departure

Depending on your departure time, you might have free time for some shopping or additional excursions. Transfer on your own to the airport. Depart or start an additional program.

This Tour has Two Program Levels

Standard Program Offers:

  • Hotels: moderate to standard tourist class hotels (2 and 3 star).
  • Train seating: standard rail car seating / adventure class. You have the option to upgrade your seating to dome rail car seating on selected train routes when you book the tour.

Upgraded Program Offers:

  • Hotels: good moderate to first class hotels (3 and 4 star), wherever possible. Alaska has very limited hotel choices in remote areas and small towns.
  • Train seating: deluxe dome rail car seating wherever possible.
