Day
1: Wednesday, February 3, 2010 -
Fairbanks Arrival
Fairbanks
is situated in the heart of the Tanana
Valley and combines modern amenities with a
frontier atmosphere. Recognized as the
gateway to Alaska Arctic, the city has a
long and colorful history dating back to the
late 1800’s and the discovery of gold.
Upon
your arrival, transfer to the hotel via
courtesy shuttle. This afternoon you will
meet your guide and review the itinerary for
your Yukon Quest Tour.
The famous Yukon Quest Mushers Banquet is
held this evening and we have reserved
tables exclusively for our group. All Quest
competitors will be here. This special
dinner occasion is a great opportunity to
see and meet the mushers in person.

Day 2: Thursday, Feb 4,
2010 - Fairbanks
This
morning
we will embark on a
guided sightseeing tour with the highlights of
Fairbanks including a stop at the University of
Alaska’s Museum of the North. Visit the
Trans-Alaska Pipeline, see musk oxen and caribou
at the University's research station, and other
local highlights. You will also attend Meet the
Mushers, where you will have another opportunity
to chat with the mushers before they embark on
their gruelling trek to Whitehorse. Overnight
in Fairbanks.
Day
3: Friday, Feb 5, 2010 - Dog Sledding
We have a full day excursion to Nenana today,
where you will experience dog sledding! You
will have first hand training from an expert
musher and drive your own team of huskies. The
musher will explain some of the technical
difficulties and skills needed to race a team of
huskies 1600 km from Fairbanks to Whitehorse. By race time on Saturday you will have a clear
understanding and appreciation of the challenges
that face the mushers and their teams.

Day 4: Saturday, Feb 6,
2010 - Race day!
Today the
Yukon Quest starts in the heart of Fairbanks
on
the frozen Chena River. Feel the
pre-race excitement building as mushers arrive with
their dog teams. Not only visitors but
also many locals are race fans and crowd the
starting area as dog teams depart every few
minutes. Fairbanks in winter is picturesque and
provides good opportunity for photographers.
This afternoon after
the
race start we will watch the teams at different
places along the trail. We continue alongside
the race to the famous Chena Hot Springs for
relaxation and aurora viewing. Overnight
at
Chena Hot Springs.
Day 5: Sunday, Feb 7,
2010-
Chena Hot Springs
Enjoy an open day in Chena! Take
a break and relax in the hot mineral pools of
Chena Hot Springs. Outdoor hot tubs and natural
hot springs, an indoor
pool, and winter activities ensure you
have an enjoyable day. There are numerous
optional tours to take advantage of including
snowmobiling, hiking, sleigh rides, cross
country skiing, touring the Ice Museum, and a Stoli ice
bar. This evening we will enjoy
a snow coach ride to the top of a ridge to get
unobstructed views of the Northern Lights. There
is a heated yurt for your comfort and hot drinks
such as tea, cider and hot chocolate inside. Overnight
at
Chena Hot Springs.
Day 6: Monday, Feb 8,
2010 - Arctic Circle flight seeing with Native Village tour
This morning, travel back to Fairbanks. Upon arrival in Fairbanks we will embark on a
flight-seeing trip over the vast Arctic and Yukon
River Valley. We will land at the remote
village of Beaver and learn of the local Athabascan Indian and Inupiaq Eskimo culture.
Get a firsthand glimpse at village lifestyle as
it exists today in rural Alaska. You
will receive a certificate for crossing north of
the Arctic Circle!
We return to our Fairbanks hotel for the
evening.

Day 7: Tuesday, Feb 9,
2010 - Fairbanks departure
Courtesy hotel shuttle from hotel to the
Fairbanks airport for your return flight.

driver/guide, Fairbanks city tour with Museum of the
North admission, dinner tickets for the Yukon Quest
Banquet, dog mushing instruction and tour, Chena Hot
