Visit Talkeetna, a small, unique gold mining community that is famous for its special charm and as the expedition base for mountaineers seeking to summit Mt. McKinley. From here, you can tour an Iditarod dog musher's kennel, flight see to Mt. McKinley, ski, snow shoe and even possibly see the amazing Aurora Borealis.

5 Days / 4 Nights

 

Day 1: Arrive in Anchorage
Transfer to hotel by courtesy shuttle or taxi. Overnight in downtown Anchorage.

 

Day 2: Anchorage to Talkeetna / 113 miles

Plan 2.5 hours driving time, not including stops.
This morning, transfer on your own to the rental car station and pick up your SUV. Begin your driving adventure heading north on the Parks Highway to Talkeetna. Later, you will stop in Willow, AK, for a tour of the Dream a Dream Dog Farm kennel. Learn about dog mushing from veteran sled dog race mushers Vern and Susan Halter, meet real Alaskan sled dogs and enjoy a 6 to 8 mile sled dog ride through the wilderness! The evening is at your leisure. Overnight in Talkeetna.

 

Day 3: Talkeetna

Today, enjoy a 1 hour flight seeing tour that will take you within six miles of Mt. McKinley's summit. As your flight departs Talkeetna, you begin to see how the last ice age has shaped the land. Moments later you enter a world of rugged high mountain peaks and wide glacier filled valleys. Listen as your pilot describes the natural wonders of Denali National Park. See the Sheldon Amphitheater, beautiful Ruth Glacier, and the Great Gorge (the world's deepest - almost 2 miles from top to bottom). The rest of the day is at your leisure for a visit to the Talkeetna Ranger Station, tour the local museum, or enjoy an outdoor activity such as skiing or snowmobiling (not included). Overnight in Talkeetna.

 

Day 4: Talkeetna to Anchorage / 113 miles

Plan 2.5 hours driving time, not including stops.

Today is at your leisure to return to Anchorage. Overnight in downtown Anchorage.

 

Day 5: Anchorage departure
Return your rental vehicle to the airport. Depart or start an additional program.

 

Please note:  Driving times during the winter may take longer due to weather and road conditions.

4 nights moderate level accommodations; 4 days SUV rental with unlimited mileage; 1.5 hour Sled Dog Kennel tour and ride; 1 hour Mt. McKinley Flight Seeing tour from Talkeetna; All taxes and fees.
