Tour 175
Ultima Thule Words used by Captain Cook on his Alaska voyages to describe the vast unexplored lands seen from the deck of his ship in 1778. Today, deep in the Wrangell St. Elias mountains, you will find the Ultima Thule Lodge. Located beyond all road access and in a remote park, Ultima Thule operates several small bush planes to reach into this outstanding and remote country. This is a perfect lodge for a true Alaskan wilderness vacation.
Lodge owners are longtime Alaska residents, and bring a high caliber of professional ability to this unique operation. Co-owner Paul Claus is an Everest climber and well known adventurer. Donna Claus was a member of the US Olympic ski team and her sound knowledge of the region helps form an exceptional team. Their daughter Ellie Claus was the youngest person to ever finish the grueling Iditarod Trail Sled dog race. She raises and train sled dogs at the lodge and offer guests the opportunity to mush a dog team on a glacier all summer long! Other activities at the lodge include, wildlife viewing, fly fishing, hiking, rafting, kayaking, mountain trekking, plus some of the greatest bush flying anywhere.
Ultima Thule Lodge offers 6 hand crafted private cabins, plus a multi room main lodge for indoor activities and gourmet family style dining.

Summer Adventure Program: The lodge offers an array of activities such as fly-in fishing, hiking, and wildlife viewing of brown and black bears, mountain goats, Dall sheep, buffalo, moose, and caribou. Experienced pilots are ready to seek out animals, landing close for best viewing and photography. Other activities include river rafting, canoeing, mountain trekking, climbing expeditions, paragliding, and summer dog sledding if conditions are right.
Spring Powder Skiing: With almost constant daylight in the spring, Ultima Thule has a reputation for some of the greatest powder skiing in North America. March and April
are the best, although during the summer runs may be made at higher elevations. Expert skiers can easily reach over 35,000 vertical feet a day, and a record 65,000 has been achieved. Other winter activities include, dog mushing, snow shoeing, and cross country skiing. Winter is the best time to view the Aurora Borealis.
Guests have their own private log cabin. Units are well appointed with private bathroom and outdoor verandah's with mountain views. Wood fired sauna is available for use at any time. The central building houses the dining area where meals are served 'family style' in a friendly atmosphere.
