About Sitka Alaska: History and Tour Options

Originally settled by the native Tlingit people,
Sitka offers a combination of Native culture, Russian history, and Alaskan wilderness which will provide a diverse and unequaled experience.  One look at lovely Sitka and you'll know why Alexander Baranof,Mt. Edgecumbe towers over the quaint and historic town of Sitka governor of the Russian American Company, decided to established a settlement here in 1799. With views of island-studded waters and stately spruce forests reaching to the water's edge, Sitka is considered Alaska's most beautiful seaside town.

Marine wildlife cruises and kayaking tours are a few tour favorites.  The nearby waters are a popular feeding ground for humpback whales, tufted puffins and other sea birds. You may also spot sea otters, sea lions and other marine wildlife.  Sitka sightseeing tours offer insights into both native Tlingit culture as well as the Russian Orthodox Heritage that co-exist in the community today.  One favorite stop is the Alaska Raptor Center, a volunteer run Alaska bald eagle hospital and educational center.

IMPORTANT NOTES: If you are arriving into Juneau by cruise ship, please include the ship name on your reservation form.  All prices listed below include all taxes and fees.
