There are approximately 100 scenic miles of roads to explore on Kodiak Island .  Bring your camera, binoculars and have a picnic! There are also several roadside inns along the way where you can stop for lunch.  Most of the roads outside the city are unpaved gravel roads yet are suitable for normal cars.  Much of the land along the road system is privately owned.  However, non fee permits are available for hiking, picnicking and other recreational activity.  Check with the Visitor Information Center to obtain proper permits.  Trail heads and other locations are usually not marked or signed, monitor mileage to find points of interest.
