8 days / 7 nights 

 

Day 1: Anchorage Arrival

You will be picked up at the airport and taken you to your hotel. Explore Alaska’s largest city on your own or just relax. This evening, meet your tour director and traveling companions at a casual “get to know you” reception. Overnight in Anchorage.

 

Day 2: Anchorage to TalkeetnaView from McKinley Princess Lodge

You’ll transfer to the rail depot this morning. Enjoy breakfast aboard your luxurious railcars with your group in the comfortable dining area. On your journey watch the scenery unfold before you through the domed windows. Talkeetna is an eclectic town at the junction of three rivers, where nature trails and optional activities abound. You’ll stay at the beautiful McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge, featuring quite possibly the most awesome view of Mt. McKinley in the state. The afternoon is at your leisure for optional activities such as flight seeing, hiking and river tours (not included). Overnight near Talkeetna. (B)

 

Day 3: Talkeetna to Denali

You’ll already be swapping stories with your new friends over breakfast this morning. Then get a different perspective of the spectacular Alaska Range as you board  the dome train to Denali National Park. Tonight you’ll be regaled with a sumptuous dinner and homespun entertainment at Cabin Nite Dinner Theater. Overnight at the Denali Park entrance. (B, D)

 

Day 4: Denali

Enjoy breakfast with your group before you venture into Denali National Park on the famed Tundra Wilderness Tour. Watch for big game, such as grizzly bears, moose, and caribou. Weather permitting, Mt. McKinley may be visible in its breathtaking splendor. A snack box is included on the tour. You will also have time to stop in the Visitor Center or select from thrilling options such as a jet boat ride or helicopter flight (not included). Overnight at the Denali Park entrance. (B, SL)

 

Day 5: Denali to Girdwood

This morning, travel south by deluxe motor coach to Portage Lake for an unforgettable cruise aboard the m/v Ptarmigan to within 300 yards of Portage Glacier. Along the way, enjoy lunch with your traveling companions. At the end of your day, rest easy at Hotel Alyeska, the only hotel in Alaska with a four-diamond rating. While relaxing in this oasis of tranquility, enjoy optional tours, such as a tram ride up Mt. Alyeska or a helicopter flight to go dog sledding on a glacier or an ATV tour (not included). Overnight at the Alyeska Resort. (B, L)

Day 6: Girdwood to Cooper Landing

After breakfast, travel by motorcoach to Seward for an adventure cruise along the dramatic Kenai Peninsula coastline, broken by misty glacier-carved fjords. Enjoy lunch on board while watching for whales, sea lions, sea otters, bald eagles, puffins and more wildlife, plus alpine and tidewater glaciers. This 6-hour cruise is fully narrated and provides in-depth experiences within Kenai Fjords National Park. Afterward, travel west by coach to Cooper Landing and stay and the remarkable Kenai Princess Wilderness Lodge. Overnight in Cooper Landing. (B, L)

 

Day 7: Cooper Landing – Anchorage

Join your group for breakfast this morning. Then travel by motorcoach back to Anchorage. You will have time to explore and have lunch on your own. In the afternoon enjoy a tour of Alaska’s largest city—including the Alaska Native Heritage Center, where you can experience Alaska’s many diverse native cultures, past and present. This evening, join your tour director and fellow travelers for a farewell dinner at a local Anchorage restaurant. Overnight in Anchorage. (B, D)

 

Day 8: Anchorage

Extend your Alaska vacation with an independent optional tour such as bear viewing or an excursion into Alaska's Arctic (not included). For those departing Anchorage, a transfer is provided from the hotel to the airport.
