This Anchorage outdoor day trip allows you to enjoy the truly unique experience of ice climbing on a glacier. Arrive at Spencer Glacier Whistle Stop aboard the Alaska Railroad. After a short 1 mile van ride to the edge of Spencer Lake, you will be outfitted in personal safety devices (PFD’s) and a spray skirt. Kayak across Spencer Lake about 1.5 miles (approximately 60 minutes) to the other side of the glacier. Upon arrival to the glacier, get outfitted with helmets, crampons, and ice picks. After a brief safety lesson and practice getting comfortable with the equipment, the group will venture out onto the glacier and about two hours will be spent climbing ice walls near the edge of the glacier. Experienced glacier guides provide information on glaciology and techniques. You will return to Anchorage by scheduled motorcoach.
