  • Physical Activity: No experience is necessary however you must be in good physical condition and able to hike for up to 6 hours, covering 9 miles round trip, with a 10-15 lbs backpack. The terrain is uneven and rocky, so sturdy hiking shoes are a must.
  • Child Age: 10 year old minimum

Tour Overview

This active outdoor Juneau, AK day trip begins with a 4.5 mile moderate to challenging hike through the rainforest along Mendenhall Lake. The beginning of the Mendenhall Lake trail is well maintained, while the second half is off the beaten path and can include areas of mud, slippery bedrock, loose gravel and multiple short, steep up and downhill sections. Once you reach Mendenhall Glacier, you will be outfitted in trekking gear. With the use of crampons, you will trek for up to 1 hour on moderate glacier terrain exploring accessible features such as crevasses, ice caves and moulins. The accessibility of ice formations varies throughout the year. Return to Juneau on the same rainforest path.

Special Terms

There is a 2 person minimum is required to operate this tour. Unfortunately visiting specific glacier features such as ice caves and moulins, cannot be guaranteed due to the constantly changing nature of Mendenhall Glacier.
