On this day tour from Talkeetna, Alaska, ride on one of America’s last flag stop trains on the Hurricane Turn Train. Board the Alaska Railroad in Talkeetna. The train route threads its way along the Susitna River and through the Indian River Canyon. The highlight of this day trip is stunning Hurricane Gulch Trestle. (Note: in rare instances, it may not be possible to see the Hurricane Gulch area due to other trains operation schedules). The creek lies 296 feet below the bridge which spans 384 feet, the most expansive trestle on the Alaska Railroad route.
The Hurricane Turn Train has delivered Alaska locals to their remote cabins since 1923. Alaskans and visitors have the opportunity to get off the train anywhere along the 55-mile stretch to hike, or enjoy the scenery – you just have to be back when the train returns. Stop the return train with the wave of a flag. Or stay on board and enjoy the amazing remote scenery of the entire 110-mile route. The train can return late to Talkeetna depending on the number of stops requested.
