Cruise Glacier Bay National Park, one of the most
rare and beautiful places on earth,
onboard the
Spirit of Discovery. The
rapidly retreating glacier ice
reveals a spectacular network of
islands and fjords. Enjoy acres of
pristine wilderness, hear the call
of sea birds as they cluster on the
tiny islands, and feel the chill of
a glacier as you travel through this
spectacular place.
Highlights of this cruise include
Glacier Bay, Icy Strait, Skagway,
Haines and Juneau.
Cruise West's vessels are smaller
than most of the cruise ships plying
Alaska's waters. This allows for
cruising through passages which are
inaccessible to larger ships,
resulting in a sense of truly being
part of the great coastal vista.
With the friendly and personal
atmosphere on board, dramatic
scenery, glaciers, and wildlife,
this is a cruise you will long
remember.

5
day / 4 night cruise itinerary
Transfer from the Juneau airport to
downtown
Juneau. Later today, board your ship
to begin your cruise down the
Gastineau Channel. D
Day 2: Skagway and Haines
Relive the gold Rush in the
picture-perfect setting of Skagway,
the starting place for many early
gold seekers. The Skagway Streetcar
will tour you around this charming
town, home of the White Pass & Yukon
Route Railway, built in 1898. Just
down Lynn Canal, visit Haines, famed
for attracting artists and for its
bald eagle population. Nestled at
the base of the rugged Chilkat
Mountains, the picturesque town of
Haines is a pleasant contrast to the
bustle of the big cruise ship ports.
This truly Alaskan town known for
its scenery, military history,
numerous artisans, galleries, and
off-the-beaten-path attitude will
allow you to breathe in a taste of
life in the “real” Alaska that few
have the privilege to enjoy. BLD
Day
3: Wilderness Cruising
and Glacier Bay National Park
Your Captain will determine the best
spots to explore this morning based
on the local conditions. Watch for
humpback whales and, weather and
conditions permitting, explore by
inflatable excursion craft. This
afternoon the Captain will take the
vessel into Glacier Bay Park
Headquarters in Bartlett Cove,
located just inside the boundary of
Glacier Bay National Park, a
3.3 million acre nature wonderland.
Here a Park Ranger and a Cultural
Interpreter will come aboard to
provide a brief introduction before
you go ashore. Here you will be able
to participate in a number of
activities: a walk around the Forest
Loop Trail, extended hikes, walks
along the beach, enjoy time sitting
by the fireplace, or sitting on the
deck at Glacier Bay Lodge taking in
the scenery. This evening we cruise
into the heart of Glacier Bay
National Park looking for wildlife
along the way.
About 220 species of birds have been
recorded in the Park as well as
large populations of land mammals. BLD
Day 4: Glacier Bay National Park
Designated a World Heritage Site and Biosphere
Reserve, Glacier Bay is a nature wonderland. While
most cruises enter and exit the park in one day, you
will be able to spend all day making your way
through the bay, allowing for in-depth exploration
and even more incredible scenery. A Park Ranger and
a Cultural Interpreter will be onboard all day to
provide narration and insight into your Glacier Bay
experience.
They will help you look for mountain
goats, brown and black bears, sea lions, harbor
seals, sea otters, whales, puffins, and murres.
Stop in front of a massive glacier to watch for ice
to calve off into the ocean with a thunderous
splash! BLD
Day 5: Juneau

airport for your return flight home.
