Prudhoe Bay Arctic Adventure

Cross the Arctic Circle and reach the Arctic Ocean!The Dalton Highway is Alaska's lifeline to the Arctic. Starting in Fairbanks, the first day of this journey takes you north through the sub-arctic region, crossing the Arctic Circle and visiting the tiny settlement of Coldfoot. The Gates of the Arctic National Park, Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, Brooks Range and North Slope are all accessed along your route. With rustic accommodation in Coldfoot and Deadhorse, you sample life in the rural north. Extend your arctic adventure by visiting Barrow, which provides an introduction to the rich culture of the Eskimo people and the isolated beauty of the Arctic Ocean.

Day 1:  Crossing the Arctic Circle

Early in the morning, you will depart for a full day ground tour north in the personalized comfort of the tour van (approx. 8 hours including frequent stops). The tour takes you along the rugged Dalton Highway and over the Arctic Circle. A visit will be made to the Arctic Circle Trading Post, situated in the rural community of Joy. Marvel at the majestic beauty of the northland's most famous waterway, the mighty Yukon River, and learn of the its storied past. Overnight in rustic Coldfoot.

 

Day 2: Prudhoe Bay & the Arctic Ocean

Your van tour continues north on the Dalton Highway today (approx. 8 hours including frequent stops). Visit the historic gold mining community of Wiseman. Climb through the majestic Brooks Mountain Range and over the Continental Divide at Atigun Pass. Explore the amazing arctic tundra of the Arctic Coastal Plain and feel the veins of ice just beneath the surface. Keep your eyes open for grizzly bears and caribou! Overnight in Prudhoe Bay.

 

Day 3:  Prudhoe Bay to Barrow**

Visit the Prudhoe Bay oil fields and complete the journey by dipping your toe in the frigid waters of the Arctic Ocean. Transfer to Deadhorse Airport for your charter flight to the Inupiaq Eskimo village of Barrow. This one hour flight provides a view over the Arctic Ocean and northern horizon. Transfer to hotel provided. Enjoy some free time at the "Top of the World" in Alaska's northernmost village. Stay up to witness the Midnight Sun! Overnight in Barrow.

**On the 3 day, 2 night tour, you will transfer to Deadhorse Airport for your charter flight to Fairbanks after your Prudhoe Bay tour. Arrival back in Fairbanks at approximately 6pm.

 

Day 4: Barrow to Fairbanks

Get a firsthand glimpse of the lifestyle of Alaska's Arctic Coastal people with a tour of the village. Meet the Inupiaq Eskimo people while enjoying a cultural program featuring ceremonial song and dance, traditional games, and demonstrations of local native crafts. Walk the shores of the Arctic Ocean near the northernmost point in North America. Transfer to the Barrow airport for the scheduled flight to Fairbanks (connecting flights to Anchorage available at additional cost). Arrive Fairbanks about 8:40 p.m.

Escorted land tour by driver/guide from Fairbanks to Prudhoe Bay.  Local guides for Prudhoe Bay and Barrow sightseeing tours.  Flight from Prudhoe Bay to Fairbanks, or (if booked with Barrow Extension) flights Prudhoe Bay to Barrow and Barrow to FairbanksOfficial Arctic Circle Adventure Certificate. 2 or 3 nights basic accommodations.

·    Due to oil field security measures, a valid passport number (with issuing country information) or driver's license number (with issuing state information) is required at time of booking. You will be required to carry your passport/driver's license with you during the oil field tour.

·    Passenger weights are required at time of reservation! This is important for the flight portion, as the    total weight of the aircraft, including passenger weight and luggage weight, is limited due to safety reasons.

·  Guests are limited to one bag per person with maximum weight of 10-15 pounds.

·    Accommodations: overnight accommodations for this program consist of very basic, clean rooms that are extremely rustic by urban standards. Rooms do NOT have private bathrooms. Toilets and shower stall facilities are located down the hall.

·    Meals: are NOT included but can be purchased en route.

·    Pre and post nights in Fairbanks are highly recommended.

·    Date and/or Name Changes on a 4-day tour will incur an additional $150 per person, plus any airfare rate increase.

·    Cancellations of a 4-day tour will incur a minimum fee of $100 per person plus the non-refundable airfare to/from Barrow, in addition to our standard cancellation fees.
