  • Highlights: Zachar Bay Lodge is located on the northwestern shore of Kodiak Island in the Kodiak Island National Wildlife Refuge, the perfect location for a nature lodge. The area offers a diverse ecosystem, rugged mountains and pristine waterways, including lakes, rivers and ocean. The lodge is a converted cannery, offering comfortable rooms with private bath. Guests are a mix of wildlife enthusiasts and fishermen. Wildlife viewing programs and fresh and saltwater fishing opportunities are available. As the lodge is in the midst of Kodiak Brown bear habitat, bears are occasionally seen on salmon fishing trips and around the lodge. From Mid-June through the end of July, an optional bear viewing flight to Frazer Lake is offered.

Tour Overview

Zachar Bay is located in the heart of Kodiak Island National Wildlife Refuge. Zachar Bay is the perfect nature lodge for a great Alaskan wilderness vacation. You can choose daily adventures such as guided wildlife and possibly Kodiak bear viewing, hiking and boating adventures, as well as great sport fishing. Explore remote beaches and wilderness areas by powerful boats and by the lodge’s seaplane.

Zachar Bay Lodge is a family owned and operated Alaska nature lodge developed from a historic cannery. Accommodation is in comfortable private rooms, and the main lodge has a congenial family style dining and lounge area. Guests will find the combination of Zachar Bay’s ambiance and choice of daily activities a highly rewarding and fun Alaska vacation experience.

Tour Itinerary

Important - Please plan two nights in Anchorage after the trip as weather may delay your return to Anchorage. Please also plan a night in Anchorage prior to this trip.

Anchorage to Kodiak

This afternoon depart Anchorage aboard a scheduled flight to Kodiak. Rest of day in Kodiak on own. Overnight in Kodiak City.

Kodiak to Zachar Bay Lodge

This morning transfer to the airport in Kodiak and take a 40 minute floatplane flight to the lodge. On arrival you will be met by the hosts who will provide a brief orientation. This afternoon enjoy a cruise along the rugged coast to nearby bird rookeries and search for wildlife. Overnight Zachar Bay Lodge.

Zachar Bay Lodge

Each day you may select from a wide choice of guided activities including sea otter viewing, fishing, hiking, boat trips, and photography. Lodge guides will help tailor your activities to ensure you get the very best from your stay. Weather plays an important part of life and schedules are flexible to work around the natural elements. Fishing is excellent, and with an expert guide you can catch a variety of species in both fresh and salt water. At Zachar Bay Lodge you will feel the peace and quiet of nature all around you!

Zachar Bay Lodge to Anchorage

After breakfast depart by floatplane back to Kodiak. You will transfer over to the Kodiak Airport and in the afternoon depart on a scheduled flight from Kodiak to Anchorage*. Upon arrival in Anchorage transfer on own.

* There may be a layover time at the Kodiak Airport for several hours. However due to weather delays and check in requirements, we will not schedule tight connections.

Child rate is valid for children 7 to 11 years, sharing room with at least 2 full paying adults with existing bedding. Maximum 4 people per room. Children must be at least 7 years old for this tour.

Our Standard Program Includes:

2 and 3 star hotel accommodations.

The program will include a combination of hotels or motels that are considered moderate to standard tourist class. Please be aware not all hotels have shuttle services.

Standard train car seating on all rail services (reserved seats).

If you would like to book the standard program but with upgraded rail seating, the option and surcharge will be listed when you save to your cart.

Our Upgraded Program Includes:

* 3 and 4 star hotels (best available) wherever possible.

The program will include standard rooms at this category of hotel where possible. Alaska has very limited hotel choices in remote areas and small towns. The properties will typically offer a wider range of services such as a full-service restaurant, room service and perhaps a pool or spa facilities. Please be aware the upgraded accommodations in downtown Anchorage do not have hotel shuttle services. Many of the upgraded hotels also offer guaranteed view rooms for additional cost. If you would like a specific room type, in addition to the upgraded program, please ask us about availability and cost difference.

Deluxe dome train car seating between Anchorage, Denali and Fairbanks, or Anchorage and Seward.

All journeys between Anchorage and Whittier are in standard seating as deluxe dome cars are not available on that route.

Cancellation Policy:
Anytime after our written confirmation: 50% cancellation fee
60 to 0 days prior to lodge stay date: 100% cancellation fee

Payments are non-refundable if reservations are cancelled (even if due to weather) but can be applied to a future trip; however, this does not include airfare to Kodiak Island if used.
