Enjoy the scenic route through Alaska's heartland on the Alaska Railroad

Explore Alaska's great interior by traveling southbound from Fairbanks to Denali and then continuing to Anchorage. A full day tour into Denali National Park is included with opportunities for wildlife viewing and a chance to get closer to Mt. McKinley, North America's tallest mountain. This classic rail journey through Alaska's heartland is one of the most scenic rail routes in the world.

 


 

5 Days / 4 Nights

 

Day 1: Fairbanks arrival
Arrive
into Fairbanks on your own. Transfer from the airport by hotel shuttle or on own. Depending on when you arrive, you may have time for optional activities such as a tour over the Arctic Circle or Sternwheeler Riverboat cruise (not included). Overnight in Fairbanks.

 

Day 2: Fairbanks to Denali A caribou in Denali National Park.

Transfer by hotel shuttle or on own to the Alaska Railroad station. Depart at 8:15am* to Denali, arriving at 12:15pm. This afternoon, we suggest taking time to see the Denali National Park Visitor Center which offers many exhibits and information about the park. Or enjoy one of the optional tours such as river rafting, hiking and/or flight seeing (not included). Overnight near the Denali park entrance.

 

Day 3: Denali
Early this morning (between 5:30am and 7am), depart on a bus tour of Denali National Park. This 6 to 8 hour tour takes you approximately 53 miles into the Park. As you travel through the pristine wilderness, your experienced driver / guide will provide an overview of the land and its wildlife. Along the way, stops will be made for viewing wildlife, such as bears and moose, and taking photographs. A snack box and hot beverage are included. The afternoon is at your leisure. This evening, we recommend the delicious salmon dinner and amusing antics served at the Cabin Nite Dinner Theatre show (not included). Overnight near the Denali park entrance.

Day 4: Denali to Anchorage
The morning is at your leisure. Later, transfer provided to the rail station b
y hotel courtesy shuttle. Depart at 12:12pm, traveling south on the Alaska Railroad through the Matanuska-Susitna Valley en route to Anchorage. Upon arrival in Anchorage (8pm), transfer to hotel by courtesy hotel shuttle or taxi. Overnight Anchorage.

 

Day 5: Anchorage - departure
Depending on your departure time, you may have time for an optional excursion such as flight seeing or Anchorage Sightseeing Tour (not included). Transfer to the Anchorage airport by hotel courtesy shuttle or by taxi.

4 night hotel accommodations. Rail transportation from Fairbanks to Denali and Denali to Anchorage. 6 to 8 hour bus tour into Denali National Park with snack. All taxes.


Included for standard programs are transfers in Anchorage by courtesy hotel shuttle (taxi fares are not included).  Included in upgraded programs are taxi transfers in Anchorage and dome train.

For departures from June 3 - September 3 you can also upgrade to a longer (approx. 12 hour) bus tour into Denali National Park on day 3. Lunch at a lodge inside the park is included. A surcharge applies, see below in price table. If you fly back the total tour length will be about 8 hours.

If you prefer to start this program in Anchorage and end it in Fairbanks, this also is possible on request. The prices will be the same.
