Begin your adventure on the Alaska Railroad.Designed for independent travelers and train enthusiasts, this tour uses the convenient daily schedule of the Alaska Railroad and convenient hotels. Local experts and on-board rail staff are your guides. This is a journey through Alaska's rich history, varied native cultures and lifestyles.

From the majestic waters of Prince William Sound to Alaska's great interior region, this tour moves at a relaxed pace and includes many major Alaskan highlights. In just seven days you will travel the most of Alaska Railroad system, experience Alaska's scenic glaciers and shoreline, view wildlife in Denali National Park, and

                                                    cruise on a classic sternwheeler in Fairbanks.

Itinerary

7 Days / 6 Nights

Day 1:  Anchorage arrival
Transfer to hotel by courtesy shuttle or taxi. Overnight in Anchorage.

Day 2: Glacier Cruising in Prince William Sound Prince William Sound on the 26 Glacier Cruise.
Transfer to the rail station by hotel courtesy shuttle or taxi. At 10am* depart on a scenic train ride, past Beluga Point and along Cook Inlet to Whittier. The spectacular scenery is a highlight and represents all that Alaska is famous for. On arrival in Whittier (12:20pm), walk to the small boat harbor and board a high-speed catamaran for your cruise through Prince William Sound. Watch for sea otters, whales and birds as you travel through glacier-filled College and Harrimann Fjords. A stop will be made at a glacier for the chance to witness large chunks of the glacier fall into the water (know as glacier calving) up close. A hot lunch is include while on board. Following the cruise, board the train for the return to Anchorage (depart 6:45pm). Upon arrival in Anchorage (9:15pm), transfer back to your hotel by hotel courtesy shuttle or taxi. Overnight in Anchorage.

Day 3: Anchorage to Denali National Park
This morning, transfer to the Anchorage train station by hotel courtesy shuttle or taxi. Then travel aboard the Alaska Railroad to Denali National Park (8:15am). Relax and enjoy the scenery through large picture windows. Upon arrival in Denali (3:30pm), transfer provided to the hotel by courtesy shuttle. In the afternoon, enjoy an optional tour such as whitewater rafting or helicopter sightseeing (not included). Overnight near the Denali park entrance.

Day 4: Denali National ParkMt McKinley in Denali National Park
Early this morning (between 5:30am and 7am), depart on a bus tour of Denali National Park. This 6 to 8 hour tour takes you approximately 53 miles into the Park. As you travel through the pristine wilderness, your experienced driver / guide will provide an overview of the land and its wildlife. Along the way, stops will be made for viewing wildlife, such as bears and moose, and taking photographs. A snack box and hot beverage are included. The afternoon is at your leisure. This evening, we recommend the delicious salmon dinner and amusing stories of the Cabin Nite Dinner Theatre show (not included). Overnight near the Denali park entrance.

Day 5: Denali to Fairbanks

The morning is free to explore Denali or relax at your hotel. This afternoon, transfer provided to the train station via hotel courtesy shuttle. At 3:45pm, depart on the train to Fairbanks. Upon arrival in Fairbanks (8pm), transfer to hotel via courtesy shuttle or on own. Overnight in Fairbanks.

Day 6: Fairbanks to AnchorageRiverboat Discovery in Fairbanks

At 8:45am, depart on a 3.5 hour cruise of the Chena and Tanana Rivers aboard the only authentic sternwheeler riverboat operating in Alaska. This narrated tour provides background on the area's natural history and the Athabascan Native culture. You will see a trapper's cabin, log homes, bush pilot performance and a championship sled dog team. A stop will be made at the historic site of a Chena Indian village to learn about Native Alaskan hunting and fishing techniques. This afternoon - at about 4:00pm - you depart Fairbanks for Anchorage on a scheduled flight (55 minutes). On arrival in Anchorage, transfer to hotel via courtesy shuttle or taxi. Overnight Anchorage.

Day 7:  Anchorage departure
Depart or start an additional program. Take the hotel courtesy shuttle or taxi to the airport.

6 nights hotel accommodation. Train from Anchorage to Whittier (round trip), Anchorage to Denali National Park and Denali to Fairbanks. Scheduled flight from Fairbanks to Anchorage. Prince William Sound 26 Glacier cruise with lunch (baked halibut, baked chicken or vegetable soup), 6 to 8 hour Denali National Park bus tour with snack. 3.5 hour Sternwheeler riverboat cruise in Fairbanks. All taxes and fees.

 

Upgraded program also includes taxi transfers on days 1, 2, 3, 6 and 7 in Anchorage.
