Visit two of Alaska's most famous parks - Glacier Bay National Park and Denali National Park! This 8 night program begins in Juneau with a visit to Glacier Bay National Park. In 1925, Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve was designated a national monument to preserve the glacial environment and plant communities for public enjoyment and scientific study. It has since become one of the most popular destinations in Alaska. Then, fly north to Anchorage for a visit to Denali National Park, including a scheduled bus tour into the Park.

Day 1:  Arrive Juneau

Transfer to hotel by courtesy shuttle or on own. Overnight in Juneau.

 

Day 2: Juneau to Gustavus

Transfer on your own to the Juneau airport for a morning scheduled flight to Gustavus. On arrival, you will be met by a representative and transferred to the lodge. This afternoon, enjoy a 3.5 hour whale watching cruise into Icy Strait and Point Adolphus to see humpback whales in their summer feeding grounds. The whales' unique feeding techniques, acrobatics and vocalizations make this tour unforgettable. Overnight Glacier Bay Lodge. Dinner included.

 

Day 3: Glacier Bay National Park Cruise

Enjoy an early morning breakfast before transferring to Bartlett Cove for your 8 hour narrated cruise of Glacier Bay National Park. Watch for whales, Stellar sea lions and birds as the high-speed catamaran cruises through the park to the face of the Margerie and Grand Pacific Glaciers, two of 16 tidewater glaciers found in the National Park. You may even be fortunate enough to see glacier calving (ice falling off into the ocean). Lunch is included and park rangers are aboard to provide interpretive information. The boat will return to Bartlett Cove in the late afternoon. The evening is at your leisure. Overnight Glacier Bay Lodge. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included.

 

Day 4: Gustavus to Juneau

This morning, depart on scheduled flight back to Juneau. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel by courtesy shuttle or on own. This evening, enjoy local music while you dine on wild salmon* grilled over an open alder wood fire at the Gold Creek Salmon Bake. Overnight in Juneau.

* Chicken, BBQ ribs and vegetarian options also available.

 

Day 5: Juneau to Anchorage

The morning is at your leisure in Juneau. This afternoon, transfer by hotel courtesy shuttle or on own to the Juneau airport for a scheduled flight to Anchorage. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel by courtesy shuttle or on own. The evening is at your leisure to explore Anchorage. Overnight in Anchorage.

 

Day 6:  Anchorage to Denali National Park

This morning transfer to the Anchorage train station by courtesy hotel shuttle or on own. At 8:15am*, you will travel from Anchorage to Denali National Park aboard the Alaska Railroad. Upon arrival in Denali (3:30pm), transfer to hotel by courtesy shuttle.  The afternoon is free for optional tours in Denali, such as river rafting or flightseeing (not included). Overnight near the Denali park entrance.

 

Day 7:  Denali National Park Tour
Early this morning (between 5:30am and 7am), depart on a 6 to 8 hour bus tour approximately 53 miles into Denali National Park. As you travel through the pristine wilderness, your experienced driver / guide will provide an overview of the land and its wildlife. Along the way, stops will be made for viewing wildlife, such as bears and moose, and taking photographs. A snack box and hot beverage are included. The afternoon is at your leisure. Tonight, we recommend the delicious salmon dinner and amusing antics served at the Cabin Nite Dinner Theatre Show (not included). Overnight near the Denali park entrance.

 

Day 8:  Denali to Anchorage
Sleep in this morning or enjoy a short excursion before departing. At 2pm*, you will depart for Anchorage on a scheduled motorcoach. Relax as you travel south through the Matanuska-Susitna Valley.
Upon arrival in Anchorage (approx. 7:30pm), transfer to your hotel by courtesy shuttle or on own. Overnight in Anchorage.

 

Day 9:  Anchorage departure
Depart or start an additional program. Transfer to the airport by hotel courtesy shuttle or on own.

8 nights moderate level accommodation. Roundtrip flights between Juneau and Gustavus (will most likely be a small plane with luggage restrictions); scheduled flight from Juneau to Anchorage. Transfers in Gustavus; 3.5 hour Whale Watch cruise; full day cruise into Glacier Bay National Park from Gustavus with lunch and park fees; two breakfasts and two dinners during stay at Glacier Bay Lodge. All-you-can-eat Salmon Bake in Juneau. Train from Anchorage to Denali; scheduled motorcoach service from Denali to Anchorage. 6-8 hour bus tour into Denali National Park with snack and park admission. All taxes.
